I’m a self-described digitalPlumber sm
Thats my word with small “d” capital “P” with the “sm” [service mark]. I report to business owners. I’m their IT department looking out for their back and staff. I fix hardware and deploy software they need.
BlackSoftware.com bio
Verio ISP performed my first ever domain name registration of blacksoftware.com.
The word blackSoftware was used on Afronet and the Go Afro CompuServe/AOL online destinations for African American information superhighway early adopters. BlackFacts.com Ken Granderson and I, along with 18 category expert influencers administered Go Afro.
I believe Blacksoftware is its own genre…like black movies, literature, black music and so on..and why not. The originators of blacksoftware are African, and African Americans.
I asked the Wikipedia – full story link – to put the word blacksoftware and ethnic software and my definition for Black Software in their encyclopedia. I argued that “blacksoftware” and “ethnic software” must be included in the reference material where they describe software categories like spreadsheet, word processor, database, etc..
Read this transcript of the private conversion with WikiPedia.com editors. It was like a court room battle scene — eight speakers on their side were my judge and jury, then they made a decision!
blackSoftware has Cambridge & Boston roots
Boston artist Paul Goodnight had a free fine art screen saver for Windows. The Art in the Dark African American art screen saver for Windows was another example of blacksoftware, as was Bettye Saar’s “Digital Griot” CD ROM, and of course, who can ever forget the Black image of “Mavis Beacon” on the Broderbund distributed MAVIS Teaches Typing software product.
My Domain Name fettish
Who knew domain names would become a tangible asset class for brokers, resellers and investors. When a cold-caller offered 4 figures for bigdug.com, it was traded to him. Learning the had way, I began to acquire vanity domain names such as LookForSchools.com, StolenComputers.com, Vacation2Florida.com. DigitalPlumbers.org, BostonSnowman.com, BlackSoftware.com and others. Some are in my portfolio while ohers traded ougt or released back into the public pool.
World’s First Free Black Software Store
BlackSoftware.com hit the Boston streets fixing computer systems and networks. After midnight, I webmastered the website. A community of Black Software coders, designers and multi-media makers formed. Then Google Image Search came online and our dominant position on supplying African American clip art — these were the best selling packages — evaporated. Software programming was hard then.
National Media Jump
I was recruited to launch the Go Afro Forum by American Vision magazine, the official magazine for the African American Museums Association. (1994-1998). It acquired 67,000 paid subscribers worldwide. The venue changed ownership and the team was out of work there. Black media buyouts are common.

The 2020 ABBG launch was supported by a $5K CommMa cultural grant paid to a WBE copywriter to work on a segment of the material. These days, I update when I discover new history gems. My camera holds more than I’ve had time to release.
Boston attracts domestic and international seekers of our heritage. They want the Black Boston History experience.
Kudos to Black Heritage tour boosters MeetBoston, and Black Tour runners Live Life Like a Local, Unearthed Gems, Joel Mackel’s Hidden History Tour of Black Boston, and others who shoukd be named if I knew them. Foundation ancestors of the 1638 Boston landing appreciate Tour Guides who do Black Boston History.

BRAND LAUNCHED RECENTLY
moving with movef.com
I know how difficult it is to move South away from Big City congestion, high prices, and other inconveniences. Its hard to make a move and I’ve done it both ways — NC to Boston & Boston to NC.
So, I’m passionate about helping people In Boston, New York. New Jersey. Philly and Washington, DC cities, make the move to North Carolina. The movef.com brand helps people move the smart way.
Did you know Boston compete with NC for talented high tech and big pharma professionals. Financial giant Bank of America moved its Boston headquarters to Charlotte, NC over ten years ago.
True Story
I was assisting two young, unmarried moms with baby strollers use computers in a media lab I supervised. I overheard one say “they need a change, because they feel trapped in Boston living in the hood.” Long story short – an internet job search found job openings in NC they wanted. They told me they will contact a Carolina relative and make plans about moving. They were emotional about it.
